The basilica near Oktisi

At the Museum in Struga - Early Christian Mosaics at Oktisi Conserved

(Dnevnik, 06.10.2003) - Dr. Nikola Nezlobinski Museum in Struga is making conservation of the mosaics from an Early Christian basilica at the village of Oktisi, Struga area. The mosaics have been removed from their original position and the restoration is being made at the Museum in Struga because of the better working conditions there. The conservationist is Dragan Vergoski, of the Republic Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture in Skopje. “Great parts of the mosaics have been damaged. Currently, reconstruction and retouch are being made. We asked for the mosaics to be displayed at the museum after conservation has been completed but if we didn’t find place for them they would probably be returned to the Early Christian basilica,” Nebi Arifi, director of the Struga museum said.
